AKO takes a long-term and sustainable approach to all of its stakeholders. We are committed to developing and supporting our employees, whilst building long-term relationships with our clients and our business partners. We strive to minimise our environmental impact and aim to contribute positively to our community.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

AKO aspires to become more diverse and inclusive at all levels of the organisation. We are raising awareness of EDI through company-wide training and events, enhancing our recruitment practices, and supporting junior employees through a mentorship scheme.

As with our investment philosophy, we take a long-term approach to developing our people. The consequent low turnover of our people means our diversity mission is also long-term. Our aspiration is to increase diversity in the AKO partnership over the next five years.

Environment

We strive to minimise the environmental impact from our activities and have launched initiatives to reduce our energy and water consumption, our waste generation and to increase our recycling rates. Most of our office energy already comes from renewable sources.

We are committed to offsetting unavoidable carbon emissions and are carbon neutral. Our 2019 and 2020 carbon footprint was audited and offset by BeZero Carbon. The offsetting portfolio is risk-weighted and includes rigorously verified projects, with more credits acquired than recommended by industry guidelines. Our 2021 emissions from operations were offset by Carbon Footprint.

Community

A large share of AKO’s profit goes to the AKO Foundation every year. We encourage all staff members to engage with the Foundation through a match-funding scheme and the AKO Give Back initiative. The Give Back offers all staff members the opportunity to put forward charities for an annual grant from the Foundation, and to collectively select a winner. Since launch this initiative has supported 34 charities with more than $2 million total funding.

We engage in several work placement programmes. Since 2017 we have been partnering with Teach First to offer one-week placements for school children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This year we are excited to host interns from 10,000 Black Interns program and Generating Genius, supporting BAME students.
