Nicolai Tangen

Nicolai set up AKO Capital in 2005, and is CIO and CEO. Prior to this he was a partner at Egerton Capital (1997-2002) and built up and headed the Nordic department at Cazenove & Co. (1992-1997).

Nicolai has a Bachelor's degree in Finance from The Wharton School (1989-1991). Between July 1986 and December 1987 Nicolai served in the Norwegian Armed Forces’ School of Intelligence and Security, where he studied Russian language and was trained in interrogation and translation. In between Egerton and setting up AKO Capital, Nicolai completed a Master’s degree in the History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. He has also recently finished a Master’s degree in Social Psychology at the London School of Economics.

Nicolai serves on the Wharton Board of Overseers as well as on the Wharton EMEA Advisory Board. He is also a Governor of the University of the Arts London.

Gorm Thomassen

Gorm is co-CIO with Nicolai and has been with AKO Capital since its inception. He was previously with Cazenove & Co., which he joined in 1996 as a Nordic small- and mid-cap equity analyst; in 2000, he was made partner and head of that team.

Gorm has a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics (1995-1996) and a first-class Bachelor of Science degree in Management Sciences from the London School of Economics (1992-1995). From 1990 until 1992 he studied Russian language and interrogation training at the Norwegian Armed Forces’ School of Intelligence and Security, where he graduated second in his class.

Mike Yates

Mike joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in October 2005, and is now a portfolio manager for the AKO European funds. He was previously employed at Cazenove & Co., where he was a colleague of Gorm Thomassen, and prior to that worked at Morgan Stanley.

Mike has a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

Fernando Delgado

Fernando joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in July 2009. He has held a similar position at The Children's Investment Fund and also previously worked with Gorm Thomassen and Mike Yates at Cazenove & Co., where he was in charge of the southern European mid-cap team as well as co-head of the pan-European mid-cap team.

Fernando has a double diploma obtained at the ICADE, Madrid and the ISCE, Reims.

Patrick Hargreaves

Patrick joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in May 2011, and is now co-portfolio manager of the AKO Global Fund. Before joining AKO, Patrick had spent 8 years at Goldman Sachs where, from 2009 onwards, he was a member of the three-person team leading a department of 160 equity analysts. Prior to this he had been head of Goldman’s pan-European small- & mid-cap research team. Patrick personally covered stocks across the capital goods, retail and leisure sectors.

Patrick has a degree in English Literature from the University of Oxford.

Torkell Eide

Torkell is co-portfolio manager of the AKO Global Fund, with Patrick. He re-joined AKO Capital in September 2013 from SKAGEN Funds in Norway, where he spent four years as a portfolio manager on a global equity fund. Prior to that Torkell had already worked for three years at AKO Capital as an investment analyst. He has also been a management consultant with McKinsey and Company in the corporate finance practice.

Torkell has a first-class degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Mike Monnelly

Mike joined AKO Capital as a portfolio manager for the AKO Global Fund in May 2015. Before joining AKO, Mike was co-founder of Arhammar Global Capital Management. He had previously spent four years in GMO’s asset allocation team, and from 2005 to 2009 he was a research analyst at Kynikos Associates, where he worked on a wide range of investment opportunities.

Mike has a first-class degree in Classics and Modern Languages from the University of Oxford.

Andrew Tierney

Andrew joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst for the AKO Global Fund in September 2014. Previously, Andrew spent four years at Fidelity International as an equity analyst covering stocks in the consumer and oil & gas sectors, before heading the Natural Resources team. Prior to Fidelity, he spent four years at Powe Capital Management and three years at Cazenove & Co.

Andrew has a Master of Science degree in Finance from the University of Manchester and UMIST Federal School, and a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Warwick.

Ellen Hoyle

Ellen joined AKO Capital in October 2011 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. Before joining AKO she worked for Barclays Capital following on from three years working as a Forensic Accountant at CRA Lee & Allen (including a secondment to the Financial Services Authority enforcement team.)

Ellen has a degree in Law from the University of Exeter, and is a chartered accountant.

Michael Luciano

Michael joined AKO Capital as a senior analyst for the AKO Global Fund in August 2017. Before joining AKO, Michael spent eleven years at Fidelity Investments in London and Sydney, and from 2014 to 2017 was an analyst and co-portfolio manager at Fidelity Management and Research. Michael began his career as a sell-side equity analyst, notably at Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney.

Stuart Meldrum

Stuart joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in August 2015. Before joining AKO, Stuart spent four years at Fidelity International as an equity analyst covering a range of sectors across Europe. Prior to Fidelity, he spent three years at Och-Ziff Capital Management and four years at BlackRock.

Stuart has a Master of Science degree in Finance from the ICMA Centre at the University of Reading, and a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics and Economics from the University of Warwick.

Maria Ancupova

Maria joined AKO Capital’s market research team in December 2008 while a student at the London School of Economics. Upon graduating in October 2011, she joined the investment team as an analyst and now has the role of Head of Research Process.

Maria earned both a Master’s in International Political Economy and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Management Sciences from the London School of Economics.

Chris Reinecke

Chris joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in October 2012. He was previously employed as an equity analyst at Goldman Sachs covering pan-European small- & mid-cap companies.

Chris has a first-class degree in Materials, Economics and Management from the University of Oxford.

John Sonnerhed

John joined AKO Capital in June 2013 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting, and is now a portfolio manager for the AKO European funds. He previously worked for CFRA (Centre for Financial Research and Analysis). Prior to CFRA, he qualified and worked as an accountant.

John is a CFA Charterholder, a chartered management accountant, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Malardalen University.

Neil Dawson

Neil joined AKO Capital in January 2015 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. Before joining AKO, Neil worked at Citi in equity research, spending three years as an accounting analyst and a year covering UK small- and mid-cap companies. Prior to Citi, he worked for three years as an auditor at Deloitte.

Neil has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics, and is a chartered accountant and CFA Charterholder.

John O'Driscoll

John joined AKO Capital in March 2015 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. Before joining AKO he spent a year working in private equity at Zouk Capital and three years in Transaction Services at KPMG.

John has a degree from University College Cork, a Master’s degree in Accounting from University College, Dublin, and an MBA from London Business School. He is also a chartered accountant.

Frank Walding

Frank joined AKO Capital in April 2017 as a senior analyst. Previously he was a portfolio manager at Norges Bank Investment Management, the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund, with a focus on consumer stocks. He spent seven years in equity research at Goldman Sachs and began his career as an analyst with Investec.

Frank has a degree in Economics and Land Economy from the University of Cambridge.

Andrew Dubin

Andy joined AKO Capital in September 2011 as Head of Investor Relations, and now serves as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining AKO, Andy spent 9 years as a hedge fund analyst at Grosvenor Capital Management, where he led investments in long-short equity and global macro funds. He also opened Grosvenor’s London office. Prior to Grosvenor, Andy worked at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, the International Finance Corporation and Bear Stearns.

Andy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from The Wharton School and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Mark Henwood

Mark joined AKO Capital in January 2017 as Head of Investor Relations. He held a similar position at Meditor Capital Management for over eleven years, and began his career as an equities analyst at Baillie Gifford.

Mark has a first-class degree in Classics from the University of Oxford.

Julia Beaver

Julia joined AKO Capital in October 2016 as Head of Market Research. She has over 25 years’ experience in market research, most recently 16 years at GfK, one of the leading global market research firms, where she served as UK Head of Financial Services.

Julia has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from University of North Carolina, and an MBA from City University, London.

Peter Towler

Peter joined AKO Capital in March 2011 and is the Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”) approved Compliance Officer. Before joining AKO, Peter spent 14 years providing regulatory consulting advice to the alternative investment management industry. Prior to that he spent 3 years with the Financial Services Authority (pre-cursor to FCA) and 3 years with the Investors Compensation Scheme.

Peter is qualified with the Chartered Institute of Bankers and holds the Securities Institute Diploma.
