Before setting up AKO Capital, Nicolai was a partner at Egerton Capital (1997-2002) where he was voted Best Individual European Small Cap Fund Manager by finance directors in the Reuters Survey in both 1999 and in 2001, i.e. in two of the three years the survey was in existence. Prior to joining Egerton, Nicolai worked as an equity analyst at Cazenove & Co. (1992-1997) where he built up and headed the Nordic department.
Nicolai has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1989-1991) and he currently serves on the Wharton Board of Overseers as well as on the Wharton EMEA Advisory Board. Between July 1986 and December 1987 Nicolai served in the Norwegian Armed Forces’ School of Intelligence and Security where he took Russian language studies and was trained in interrogation and translation. In between Egerton and the setting up of AKO Capital, Nicolai also completed a Masters in the History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London.
Gorm is co-CIO with Nicolai and has been with AKO Capital since its inception. He was previously with Cazenove, which he joined in 1996 as a Nordic Small and Mid Cap equity analyst and where, in 2000, he was made partner and head of that team.
Gorm has a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics (1995-1996) and a first class Bachelor of Science degree in Management Sciences from the London School of Economics (1992-1995). From 1990 until 1992 he studied Russian language and interrogation training, graduating second in his class, at the Norwegian Armed Forces’ School of Intelligence and Security.
Mike joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in October 2005. He was previously employed at Cazenove, where he was a colleague of Gorm Thomassen, and prior to that worked at Morgan Stanley.
Mike has a First Class degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.
Fernando joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in July 2009. He has held a similar position at The Children's Investment Fund and has also previously worked with Gorm and Mike at Cazenove where he was in charge of the Southern European Mid Cap team and co headed the Pan European Mid Cap team.
Fernando has a double diploma obtained at the ICADE, Madrid and the ESC Reims.
Patrick joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in May 2011. Before joining AKO, Patrick had spent 8 years at Goldman Sachs where, since 2009, he was a member of the 3-man team leading a department of 160 equity analysts. Prior to that he had been head of Goldman’s Pan European Small & MidCap Research. Patrick has personally covered stocks across the Capital Goods, Retail and Leisure sectors.
Patrick has a degree in English Literature from Oxford University.
Torkell rejoined AKO Capital from SKAGEN Funds in Norway where he spent four years as a portfolio manager on SKAGEN´s USD 9bn global equity fund. Prior to that Torkell spent three years at AKO Capital as an investment analyst. He has also been a management consultant with McKinsey and Company as part of their corporate finance practice.
Torkell has a first class degree in Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science.
Mike joined AKO as a Portfolio Manager in May 2015. Before joining AKO, Mike co-founded Arhammar Global Capital Management. Prior to that, he spent four years in GMO’s asset allocation team focussing on research and portfolio management. Mike was a research analyst at Kynikos Associates from 2005 to 2009 working on investment ideas across a wide range of industries and geographies.
Mike has a first-class degree in Classics and Modern Languages from the University of Oxford.
Andrew joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in September 2014. Before joining AKO, Andrew spent four years at Fidelity International as an equity analyst covering names in the consumer and oil & gas sectors before heading the Natural Resources team. Prior to Fidelity, he spent four years at Powe Capital Management and three years at Cazenove.
Andrew has a MSc in Finance from the University of Manchester and UMIST Federal School, and a First Class BSc degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Warwick.
Stuart joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in August 2015. Before joining AKO, Stuart spent four years at Fidelity International as an equity analyst covering a range of sectors across Europe. Prior to Fidelity, he spent three years at Och-Ziff Capital Management and four years at BlackRock.
Stuart has a MSc in Finance from the ICMA Centre at the University of Reading, and a First Class BSc in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics and Economics from the University of Warwick.
Maria joined AKO Capital’s market research team in December 2008 while a student at the London School of Economics. Upon graduating in October 2011, she joined the investment team as an analyst.
Maria earned both a Master’s in International Political Economy and a BSc in Management Sciences from the London School of Economics.
Chris joined AKO Capital as an investment analyst in October 2012. He was previously employed as an equity analyst at Goldman Sachs covering Pan European Small & Mid-cap companies.
Chris has a First Class degree in Materials, Economics and Management from Oxford University.
Ellen joined AKO Capital in October 2011 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. Before joining AKO she worked for Barclays Capital following on from three years working as a Forensic Accountant at CRA Lee & Allen (including a secondment to the FSA enforcement team.)
Ellen has a degree in Law from the University of Exeter and is a chartered accountant.
John joined AKO Capital in June 2013 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. He previously worked for CFRA (Centre for Financial Research & Analysis). Prior to CFRA, he worked and qualified as an accountant in the UK.
John is a CFA Charterholder, is a chartered management accountant and has a BSC in Business from Malardalen University.
Neil joined AKO Capital in January 2015 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. Before joining AKO, Neil worked at Citi in equity research, spending three years as an accounting analyst and a year covering UK small and mid-cap companies. Prior to Citi, he worked for three years as an auditor at Deloitte.
Neil has a BSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and is a chartered accountant and CFA Charterholder.
John joined AKO Capital in March 2015 as an investment analyst with a focus on forensic accounting. Before joining AKO he spent a year working in private equity at Zouk Capital and three years in Transaction Services at KPMG.
John has a BComm from University College Cork, a Masters degree in Accounting from University College Dublin, an MBA from London Business School and is a Chartered Accountant.
Frank joined AKO Capital in April 2017 as a Senior Analyst. Previously he was a portfolio manager at Norges Bank Investment Management, the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund, with a focus on consumer stocks. He spent seven years in equity research at Goldman Sachs and began his career as an analyst with Investec. Frank has a degree in Economics and Land Economy from the University of Cambridge.
Andy joined AKO Capital in September 2011 and now serves as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining AKO, Andy spent 9 years as a hedge fund analyst at Grosvenor Capital Management, a $24 billion fund of funds, where he led investments in long-short equity and global macro funds. He also opened Grosvenor’s London office. Prior to Grosvenor, Andy worked at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, the International Finance Corporation and Bear Stearns.
Andy has a BSc. in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Mark joined AKO Capital in January 2017 as Head of Investor Relations. He held a similar position at Meditor Capital Management for over eleven years, and began his career as an equities analyst at Baillie Gifford.
Mark has a first class degree in Classics from the University of Oxford.
Julia joined AKO Capital in October 2016 as Head of Market Research. She has over 25 years’ experience in market research, most recently 16 years at GfK, one of the leading global market research firms, where she served as UK Head of Financial Services.
Julia has a Bachelor of Arts, Journalism from University of North Carolina, and an MBA from City University, London.
Peter joined AKO Capital in March 2011 and is the Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”) approved Compliance Officer. Before joining AKO, Peter spent 14 years providing regulatory consulting advice to the alternative investment management industry. Prior to that he spent 3 years with the Financial Services Authority (pre-cursor to FCA) and 3 years with the Investors Compensation Scheme.
Peter is qualified with the Chartered Institute of Bankers and holds the Securities Institute Diploma.
